Most turf companies will not put a number on their website. We do, and this is the plain breakdown behind it for a Tampa Bay project specifically.
The starting number
Residential turf starts at $8.50 per square foot installed, across six price tiers depending on the blade or blend you choose, whether you need something built for a front yard’s realism, a pool deck’s heat management, or a play area’s traffic. Our project minimum is $3,500, which covers a typical area of 350 to 375 square feet.
What that price actually includes
We are a lump sum contractor. The price covers base preparation, materials, and labor. In Tampa specifically, base preparation is not a minor line item, it is the part of the job that determines whether your lawn handles a summer thunderstorm correctly. An engineered permeable base built to move water down and out, rather than hold it at the surface, is what keeps a synthetic lawn from turning into a puddle during hurricane season. That work is part of the installed price, not an upsell.
What is not included, and why that is normal
Items outside the turf scope, such as fire pits, french drains, irrigation or drip lines, special excavation, or other requested add-ons, are line itemed separately in your agreement. This is standard across the industry and it is worth asking any installer you are comparing quotes with to itemize the same way, so you are comparing an apples to apples number rather than a lowball estimate that grows once the extras get added.
What actually drives a Tampa project’s total up or down
Square footage, obviously, but also site condition. A yard with existing drainage problems, tree roots, or an uneven grade needs more base work than a flat, clear lot, and that shows up in the final number more than the blade choice does.
